Multivariable Calculus (Calculus 3) in High School

Many very motivated and eager high school students will finish Calculus AB (Calculus I) and Calculus BC (Calculus II) during their junior or senior year of high school.

If you finish these AP Calculus courses during your senior year, then one option to get ahead with your academic plan is to complete the next course - Calculus 3 (Calculus III) - Multivariable Calculus - during the summer before you start your new undergraduate university - or take Multivariable Calculus during your senior year. Earning real collegiate academic credits for Multivariable Calculus and then transferring those credits to your new undergraduate college/university is an excellent way to start your new school with some advanced mathematics credits under your belt.

Some very eager students may finish Calculus I (AB) and Calculus II (BC) during their junior year of high school. For these students, enrolling in multivariable calculus, honors multivariable calculus, honors vector analysis, honors calculus 4, honors calculus IV, and perhaps Differential Equations and Linear Algebra, via Distance Calculus @ Roger Williams University is an excellent way to FINISH your lower division mathematics courses even before you step foot onto your new college/university campus the following Fall semester!

I took the Business Calculus course from Distance Calculus in 2013. I was admitted to my MBA program, but then they told me I needed to take Calculus before starting the program. I finished the Business Calculus course in about 3 weeks in August before my program started. Not the most fun thing to do over the summer, but at least I got it done. I needed to brush up on my high school calculus and finally take Calc II before starting a graduate program that needed them as prereqs. This was perfect choice to fit in that summer. Got done at fast pace that I wanted and needed. Also had added bonus of one on one feedback and help when needed. Video lessons were better than many on campus instructors in large lecture settings. Online learning for math is certainly a different way of learning than most are used to in school - However, Distance Calculus does a great job of providing valuable feedback and tips on each assignment, and the professor is always available for detailed instruction and help. Tools like Mathematica provide an environment for learning with a lot more freedom and opportunity for exploration of concepts than the regular classroom setting.

POSITIVES:
One of the best math classes I have ever taken. The lessons made the failures of my previous professors very apparent. In a few short minutes, things that I used to struggle with just clicked. This professor is top notch and really wants you to understand how to use the material.
NEGATIVES:
The SOFTWARE is extremely frustrating. Even after taking the time to learn, there are countless glitches. You learn to work around them, and overall, the software makes the math convenient, but its failures are sorely felt throughout the course. Make sure you save often as it crashes regularly, especially with graphs.
The assignments are easy enough but some of them don't line up with the taught material. Be prepared to do some of your own independent research to get a deeper understanding of why things are the way they are.
